摘要
Understanding the relationship between structure and sentiment is essentialin highlighting future operations with online social networks. Morespecifically, within popular conversation on Twitter. This paper provides adevelopment on the relationship between the two variables: structure, definedas the composition of a directed network, and sentiment, a quantified value ofthe positive/negative connotations of a conversation. We highlight threadsentiment to be inversely proportional to the strength and connectivity of anetwork. The second portion of this paper highlights differences in querytypes, specifically how the aforementioned behavior differs within four keyquery types. This paper focuses on topical, event-based, geographic, andindividual queries as orientations which have differing behavior. Usingcross-query analysis, we see that the relationship between structure andsentiment, though still inversely proportional, differs greatly across querytypes. We find this relationship to be the most clear within the individualqueries and the least prevalent within the event-based queries. This paperprovides a sociological progression in our understanding of opinion andnetworks, while providing a methodological advancement for future studies onsimilar subjects.
