Excitation spectrum and momentum distribution of the extended Bose-Hubbard model

We investigate the extended Bose-Hubbard model with the nearest-neighborrepulsion on a square lattice by the standard basis operator method. We deriveGreen's functions in random phase approximation and calculate the excitationspectrum and momentum distribution in Mott insulator, charge density wave,superfluid, and supersolid phases. The excitation spectrum has gapped modes andgapless Goldstone modes in the superfluid and supersolid phases. The momentumdistribution has a peak at the zone corner in the supersolid phase and thecharge density wave phase close to the phase boundary.
