Simulating Araponga - The High Resolution Diffractometer of Brazilian Multipurpose Reactor

Neutron diffraction is in the hall of state-of-the-art techniques foranalyzing materials at the mesoscopic scale. A high-resolution neutrondiffractometer, called Araponga, is foreseen in the Brazilian MultipurposeReactor (RMB) project, a modern 30 MW research nuclear reactor, to be built inthe city of Ipero-SP, Brazil. In this work, we simulate the Araponga instrumentthrough the MCSTAS software, a computational environment based on the MonteCarlo method. The results for the neutron fluxes at the sample position arepromising and compatible with the best instruments from internationalfacilities.
