Single atom trapping in a metasurface lens optical tweezer

摘要
Optical metasurfaces of sub-wavelength pillars have provided new capabilitiesfor the versatile definition of the amplitude, phase, and polarization oflight. In this work we demonstrate that an efficient dielectric metasurfacelens can be used to trap and image single neutral atoms. We characterize thehigh numerical aperture optical tweezers using the trapped atoms and compare tonumerical computations of the metasurface lens performance. We predict futuremetasurfaces for atom trapping can leverage multiple ongoing developments inmetasurface design and enable multifunctional control in complex experimentswith neutral-atoms arrays.
